Because of snow on 21st February the original Geopark Way 3 walk had to be postponed and is now rescheduled for this date.  As a consequence, the distance of the Part 3 section has been lengthened to make it more appropriate for a June - as opposed to a February - walk. This also gives us the opportunity to continue the walk into Stourport where there are ample facilities.
The longer walk of approximately 11 - 12 miles commences at Kinlet (map ref SO 719802) and travels east and then south into the Wyre Forest. On reaching Dowles Brook, the path follows the stream, sometimes on the trackbed of the branch line linking the Severn Valley Railway at Bewdley to Tenbury Wells. At the River Severn, the path turns downstream follwing the river through Bewdley to Blackstone. Here the river is left behind as the path continues south-east to join the Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal for the final stage into Stourport.

 Peter Ford 0121-354-6637
This shorter walk of approximately 9.5 miles commences at Buttonoak (map ref SO 747782) and takes the path south directly to Dowles Brook where the longer walk is joined for the same route to Stourport.

This is a moderate+ walk of about 10 miles through woods, fields and along the canal before returning to Tegg’s Nose Park with some steady climbs mostly at the end! The views are well worth the effort.
We start at Tegg’s Nose Country Park just north of Macclesfield and quite quickly start to descend towards the village of Langley. Walking alongside a golf course we see Macclesfield town spread out to our left. A brief shortcut through the backstreets takes us to the canal part of the walk which reminds us of the industrial history of the region. (Famed for its silk industry – the coach may follow the Silk Road through the town.)
When we leave the canal we turn towards Bollington and then start heading back along the Gritstone Trail. A steep climb takes us to White Nancy – great views towards Manchester and the Peak District -and we continue along the Saddle of Kerridge with lovely views of the countryside and the village of Rainow. A steady descent into Rainow and then a fair bit of
uphill before we return to Tegg’s Nose.
Unfortunately there’s no café to greet us on our return so bring your tea and cake with you.

A 10km (6 miles) walk through Cheshire countryside with good views from Tegg's Nose, three reservoirs to add water to the hills and dales on view and a nice visitor centre in Macclesfield Forest. A splendid way to spend a walking Sunday.

Start:
Ramblers’ Retreat Car Park, Dimmingsdale. OS Ref: 063433 (Explorer 259) The start is about 38 miles from South Parade Car Park. (Toilets at Oakamore, a mile from start)
Suggested route:
From Lichfield, take the A515 to Sudbury. Turn left on to the A50 to Uttoxeter. At the 2nd, roundabout (by a Little Chef) .turn right on to the B5030, following signs to Alton Towers. At Rocester, passing the JCB works, turn left on to the B5031 to Denstone / Alton. At a T-junction, turn left onto the B5032 to Alton. Coming towards Alton, just opposite the Blacksmith’s Arms, turn right into Uttoxeter Road. Continue through Alton village following signs to Alton Towers and continue down a steep hill towards Alton Bridge. Just before the Bridge, turn left on to a narrow lane and very shortly go right into Red Road. The car park is nearly a mile further on, to your left.
Details:
B Moderate – We walk for about 10 miles, through Oakamore and over a lovely wooded ridge to meet the old mineral railway trail to Froghall Wharfe, before returning along the lovely Churnett Valley and Dimmingsdale. The scenery is enchanting and in some parts hilly, especially in the morning session, giving lovely moorland views.

A circular walk of 11 miles starting with a stroll by the River Teme from Ham Bridge (SO737610). There’s a steep ascent through Weyman’s Wood then an anticlockwise circuit round Clifton through pleasant hills and vales. This is Worcestershire at its best! Woodland mixed with pasture and orchards round well set up, moated farmhouses.

Jackie Martin

A walk of 8 miles starting from the New Inn (SO723609), a pub on the edge of Clifton. But though it may be tempting to relax here all day, we have a walk – clockwise round Clifton’s hills and vales. This is a gentle walk, without any steep bits, but with all the ambience of Worcestershire. It’s a bit like walking through the Archers!. The walk finishes at Ham Bridge.

The Way for the Millennium takes us from Newport to Stafford, passing through the villages of Gnosall, Haughton and Derrington following the route of the Stafford – Newport Greenway. The long walk is 11miles. Starting from outside Newport at Aqualate Park on the A518 we walk to Outwoods and pick up the Greenway and walk to Derrington, where we come off the Greenway and make our way to Stafford Castle for a visit. There’s lots going on and it’s well worth a detour. Then we’re back to the Greenway and walk to our coach in Stafford.

Important Advice

  • All sporting and leisure activities have inherent hazards associated with them and rambling is no exception. In spite of the safety of members always being the paramount concern, accidents will occasionally occur. It is important, therefore, when entering into the activity, that each member appreciates that they have a responsibility to identify the hazards associated with the activity and take all reasonable steps to eliminate or minimise the potential for an accident to arise.

  • On roads members should walk in single file facing oncoming traffic unless, otherwise instructed by the walk leader.

  • The walk leader determines the pace of the walk.  Please do not walk in front of the leader or try to "force the pace".

  • It is essential to carry waterproof outer clothing ie jacket, trousers as well as spare items for emergency use.  Members must have footwear suitable for rough and muddy terrain.

  • Members are asked to carry a first aid kit and any personal medication.

  • Keep in sight of walkers in front - and more importantly - walkers behind you.  Contact the leader to ensure that those behind can catch up.

  • Walk in single file across cultivated and ploughed fields.

  • Use stiles wherever possible.  Leave gates as you find them - usually closed!

  • The Group does not permit dogs (except guide dogs), radios, CDs etc.  With the exception of the Easy Access walks, our routes are not suitable for pushchairs.

  • Walkers should bring sufficient food and drink.  Pub or Cafe stops are not guaranteed.
